The role of the referee coordinator is to schedule referees for all BYSC team homegames. This includes assisting team managers with any rescheduled games that result from weather or any other cancellation issues.
If you have been around youth soccer over the last 3 years or so, you're aware that statewide our referee numbers have been dropping-- especially the adult age ones.
While the overall referee numbers have stabilized, this shortage of older refs makes for a number of challenges, most significantly assigning age appropriate Centers to handle the upper level games.
Bloomington has an excellent base of younger refs but we are also critically short of older officials.
I am asking all you parents//fans/siblings/whomever to become a certified referee and help us out. It's not too late. You can register and do the online part at your convenience. The other portion is one 8 hour clinic. There are 3 scheduled yet this summer on 7/26, 8/3 and 8/9. The clinic on 8/3 is in Burnsville so it's pretty close.
Refereeing is a nice, flexible summer job that pays pretty good (great college money).
I am happy to talk to anyone interested in this and can give you more details on getting certified or any other questions.
I can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 612-501-9991.
Hope to hear from you,
Referee/Game Field Assignor
